“The Moving Matters Traveling Workshop” (MMTW) is a mobile international platform for generating art and scholarship about the experience of migration. The conference we propose to organize in winter 2016 will be an occasion to examine this UCR-based project in the company of other scholars and artists engaged in exploring emerging connections between mobility, subjectivity and politics through collaborative projects across the humanities, arts and social sciences.

The conference will be articulated with the CIS “Advancing Intercultural Studies” project, in particular the Winter 2016 seminar composed of the director of the MMTW (Susan Ossman), founding members of the workshop (Erith Jaffe-Berg and Stephen James) and specialists of transnational history and digital humanities (Juliet Levy) and of narratives of mobility and exile (Jeffry Sacks). The conference will contribute to conversations on mobility, migration, globalization and interdisciplinary, collaborative
research across the humanities, arts and social sciences at UCR and further a UCR-based initiative that has gained international attention.
